Christmas in the Bergisches Land | WDR Reisen
We are waiting for the Christ Child, and it is known that this works particularly well in the Bergisches Land! Because that's where Engelskirchen is. Anne Willmes meets "the real Christ Child", surrounded by many children who submit their wish lists there. Her Christmas trip also takes her to Wuppertal, where she goes swimming with lights in the Langerfeld indoor pool and visits the city's Christmas markets with WDR colleague Catherine Vogel. There is also the "Dökörper Christmas" in Ruppichteroth, the "Blotschenmarkt" in Mettmann and the festively decorated courtyard at Grünewald Castle in Solingen-Gräfrath. Another great experience is the lantern tour on the Panarbora treetop path near Waldbröl.

The Bergisches Land stretches between Cologne, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area. The region on the right bank of the Rhine was named after the historical territory of the Duchy of Berg. Today the Bergisches Land includes the city triangle Remscheid, Solingen and Wuppertal, the district Mettmann, the independent city of Leverkusen, the Rheinisch-Bergisch and Oberbergisch districts as well as parts of the Rhein-Sieg district. In addition to the idyllic nature, the Bergisches Land is particularly known for its picturesque half-timbered houses, the color combination of which is also known as the "Bergischer Dreiklang".
