Pumice is a type of volcanic rock that is light and porous, formed during explosive volcanic eruptions. It is created when highly pressurized, superheated rock is violently ejected from a volcano, and rapidly cools and depressurizes. This rapid cooling traps gas bubbles within the rock, giving pumice its characteristic porous and frothy texture.
Due to its low density, pumice can often float on water.
