I make an adjustment hammer out of brass and walnut that is good for adjusting parts into zero on the lathe or tramming the vise on the milling machine. Any task that requires precise tapping/bumping. It's compact with a lot of mass and weighs in at exactly 14oz or 398 grams with the handle. It's 7/8ths of a pound. Funny how things work out sometimes. 4" square brass starting out became a 1" x 3" roundish square. Make a perfect blank and then beat on it! I was inspired by a Japanese carpenters hammer. While they look similar I haven't seen one that looks exactly like this one. The only detail I left out was making the slot in the hammer head a rectangle. I could do that but requires a lot more work with my tools/machines. I may do it in the future if the need arises but for now I'm happy with it. Enjoyed making it and learned a few things along the way. Thanks for watching! What should it be called? An adjustment hammer, lathe hammer, machine hammer? What do you think?
