Ares I-X Test Launch from NASA Kennedy Space Center, Liftoff of First Ares Flight
For the first time in over 28 years, a rocket other than the space shuttle lifts off from Launch Complex 39 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. This video was shot from the KSC PRess Site adjacent to the Launch Control Center. The launch of the Ares I-X test rocket is the first flight of NASA's Constellation program, a prelude to the Ares I, which seeks to return humans to the Moon and then fly to Mars and beyond. The flight of the Ares rocket lifted off 38 years and 1 day after the very first Apollo Saturn rocket launched.
