This is the professional Motorola Micom-2E HF SSB transceiver, Automatic Link establishment (ALE-2G) capable (MIL-STD-188-141). The radio is extremely rugged. The radio covers 1.6 MHz to 30 MHz in 10 Hz increments, both TX and RX without lockouts. Steps can be programmed in larger increments. Direct frequency entry is also possible. The radio is USB, LSB, AME, FSK and CW capable. It has six selectable IF bandwidths, also narrow ones for FSK and CW. The one shown here is the trunk-mount version with remote control head and mounting. It has about 200 programmable channels, which can be programmed either from the control unit or through PC software. The radio requires 13.8V vehicle battery voltage, and draws about 30 amps in the peaks (single-tone modulation). Lower power levels are selectable (4 power settings). The radio is capable of driving an external automatic antenna tuner (coupler) through a single RF cable, the RF cable also carries DC power and serial data to the tuner in that case. These radios were (are) used in embassies, oil rigs, United Nations vehicles, UNESCO, forestry services, ships, arctic stations and so on.
