Travelling Scotland, and Europe in general, can be super expensive and we think that we have found a way to do this almost for free.
We are in Glencoe climbing The Pap of Glencoe and we have been staying here for a couple of weeks after finding the perfect volunteering opportunity on Worldpackers. And when you combine opportunities like this with hitchhiking and camping this could be your ticket to travelling Scotland & Europe in general pretty much for free!

SORRY FOR THE BLURRED MOMENTS, THERE WAS A MISCOMMUNICATION WITH THE HOSTEL WHO THREATENED LEGAL ACTION IF WE DID NOT BLUR THEIR PROPERTY... sounds suspicious if you ask us... 😏

Traveling for free in Scotland is possible by combining volunteering through Worldpackers, hitchhiking, and camping. Worldpackers connects travellers with hosts across the world who offer free accommodation and meals in exchange for work, such as helping at eco-farms, hostels, or community projects. This not only covers your basic needs but also allows you to immerse yourself in local culture. To move between locations, hitchhiking is a viable option in Scotland and most other places around the world, where the practice is generally safe and common. Hitchhiking offers an adventurous way to meet locals and discover hidden spots off the beaten path. For nights between volunteer projects or in remote areas, camping is a perfect complement, with Scotland’s "Right to Roam" law allowing wild camping in most unenclosed land. Combining these strategies, you can explore Scotland’s stunning landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant communities without spending money on accommodation or transport, making for a truly enriching and cost-free travel experience.
