SAHRA WAGENKNECHT: Plain text! "One can only ask the federal government to get out of here"

According to "Spiegel", the Federal Audit Office criticised "significant deficiencies and risks" in the government's budget planning. The Court of Auditors judged that there had been no consolidation of the "out-of-sync federal budget". According to the magazine, it advised MPs not to approve the supplementary budget for 2024 presented by the government and also criticised the draft budget for 2025. Parts of the proposal were "hardly compatible" with the Bundestag's budgetary rights.

BSW boss Sahra Wagenknecht called the Court of Auditors' criticism of "the traffic light coalition's inadmissible budget tricks" remarkable. "We call on the federal government to present a new draft budget," she told the AFP news agency. "Instead of cutting investments and pensions, up to 50 billion euros should be saved by turning around asylum policy, cutting billions in weapons to Ukraine and changing course in energy policy."

The Bundestag will begin debating the draft budget on Tuesday. Adoption is planned for the end of November.

Meanwhile, BSW chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht wants to reduce the number of asylum seekers with a "very radical measure," in her own words. She is calling for a rule "that only those in Germany who do not enter from a safe third country are entitled to asylum and benefits - and the burden of proof lies with the applicant." This would reduce the chance of a procedure to a "vanishing minority," Wagenknecht said in Berlin.

Germany is surrounded by European Union states that are automatically considered safe third countries. According to current practice, people arriving in Germany are allowed to apply for asylum. This begins an assessment process that can take months or years. In the meantime, people are housed and cared for. According to Wagenknecht's proposal, almost none of those arriving by land will apply for asylum.

"That would be a very radical measure," said Wagenknecht. But the point has been reached where a stop sign must be put on. In principle, she also supports rejections at entry, but 4,000 kilometers of German border are very difficult to control. Her model would be a "far more reliable means than rejections, which of course are only possible in a relatively incomplete manner," said the chairwoman of the alliance, Sahra Wagenknecht.
