Are you feeling overwhelmed by everything that’s going on in the world right now? Are you staring into the abyss wondering how you even got to the edge? Well, you’re not alone!
Change is constant and rarely comfortable. It’s also incredibly difficult to maintain a healthy perspective in a world that is becoming increasingly polarising. On “Holy Shit” Blek discusses his sense of helplessness in the face of the overwhelming and heartbreaking events unfolding every day.
“Holy Shit”, is the first single from John Blek’s new album “Cheer Up” which is scheduled for release in September ‘24. This at times sparse and always reflective and affecting song shows the songwriter trapped in a malaise and exclaiming “What have I done?” to get into this state.
“For decades I’ve managed my own darknesses as best I can. Not always winning but always making it through. This song and indeed this whole record is a very personal look back for me. Perhaps a bit of an overshare but this is what I’ve documented. I offer myself as an example, though we may feel alone, we are not. These are archetypal feelings and states of being. Even on the darkest and most confusing days it’s important to realise we shall overcome.”
The single features guest vocals by Dutch trio Woolf, beautiful arrangements by the Dresden based Broken Strings and production from John’s long time collaborator, Brian Casey at Wavefield Recordings.
