Mountaintop Removal at West Virginia, United States||
In the eastern portion of the U.S., we see coal being mined in West Virginia's Appalachian Mountains through a process called mountaintop removal.
More than 500 mountaintops in the Appalachians have been removed to supply coal. The resulting coal slurry and other waste materials have filled valleys and can pose health risks for nearby residents.
