With the tremendous growth of network-based services and sensitive information on networks, network security is getting more importance than ever. Intrusion poses a serious security risk in a network environment. The growing new intrusion types possess a serious problem for their detection. This research elaborates on two areas of Detection and Prevention of Cyber Attacks in computer networks. The ways it approaches to achieve the Solution are Port Security Configuration with ICMP Protocol configuration on network on both switches and Routers and a development of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS).
Port security configuration prevents from unauthorized access and the attacker enter into networks by secure network interfaces (ports). Virtual network on Packet Tracer Version 7.3.0.0838 and its elements are developed to achieve this. ICMP Protocol configuration is configured on switches and the network interface up configuration is configured on Routers for the experiment with our research.
The second solution for the prevention developed IDS inspects the activities in a system for suspicious behavior or patterns that may indicate system attack or misuse. Ideally, the developed IDS system classifies our network data packets which sharing among the network and provides a report with normal or anomaly packets. IDS use Weka external library and over 5% KDDCup'99 data set for anomaly detection. So, it was a simple solution for preventing unauthorized access on the network while the experiments.
