The Making Music Up in Lights project aims to showcase the brilliant variety of music our 3,800+ member groups have continued making across the UK, even in the face of a pandemic. Formed of 220,000 hobby musicians, our groups perform diverse genres and styles of music at all levels of experience – each music maker’s unique background contributes to the rich tapestry of the leisure-time music sector.

Our next spotlight falls on Fleetville Swing Band from St Albans, who get us in the groove with jazzy show tune 'Feeling Good'!

Watch their instrumental (and vocal!) arrangement above and let us know if it gets you crooning along in the comments section below – if you've enjoyed what you've seen and heard, hit the Like button and subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss the next instalment!

About Fleetville Swing Band:
Fleetville Swing Band is a friendly community band of musicians from St Albans who enjoy playing swing, jazz and big band music together. Formed in 2010 from a wider community orchestra, we continue the vision of our founder, the late Paul Olive, who believed a community could be strengthened through making music together.

Thanks to the mentorship of our musical director, Bob Power, the band has flourished from a rusty group of neighbours to a current membership of over 40 local musicians.

During lockdown, we continued to meet remotely, but we followed Making Music guidance to rehearse outdoors as soon as we could! From these often freezing but joyous rehearsals, we have emerged stronger than ever, attracting many new members, a summer residency in Clarence Park, and a renewed appreciation for playing together. In August 2021, we were delighted to celebrate our 100th live performance.
