Many people think of nuts as just another junk food snack Yet nuts are excellent sources of healthy fat, protein, and other nutrients Research shows people who regularly eat nuts are less likely to have heart attacks or die from heart disease than those who rarely eat them Nutrients in nuts can help relax constricted blood vessels, lower cholesterol, and some may even prevent irregular heart rhythms But portion size matters. At nearly 200 calories an ounce, a daily handful of nuts could add 10 pounds per year and contribute to heart disease—if you don’t cut back on something else Substitute nuts for chips, for meat in main dishes, or add them to salads for a healthful crunch

Because each nut variety has different nutrients, add different types into your healthy eating plan
