Leucine zipper is a DNA binding motif that is formed by the dimerization of two alpha helix monomers. The dimer forms due to the presence of hydrophobic amino acids such as leucine at the C-terminal end of the protein. The dimer of alpha helix protein forms a Zipper like structure and hence termed as Leucine zipper motif.
