This case kicked off as an accident investigation: a fire in the house of judge Vadim Tsupko. It was one of the most talked-about events in Vnnytsia in May 1969. The shouting and glow alarmed the neighbors. The fire claimed lives of the judge and his mother-in-law Valentina Shilova. The judge’s wife Elena managed to take their 4-year old son out of the fire.
She had to rush back to rescue her disabled brother.
