Abbe's equation and Numerical aperture
Abbe was a scientist who gave the mathematical equation to calculate resolution of microscope.
In this equation the denominator n sin alpha, is termed as the numerical aperture. By definition the numerical aperture is the product of refractive index and light gathering ability of objective lens.
