Synopsis:
During the Anti-Japanese War, as Japanese forces invaded the South China Sea, the Kuomintang retreated to Baisha County without firing a single shot. Under the guise of resisting Japan, they levied grain taxes on the local people and arbitrarily conscripted men. Wang Guoxing, the Li people's chief, grew increasingly anxious. In a desperate attempt to help his fellow villagers, he gave the Kuomintang battalion commander, Li Shaoqiu, money he had saved to treat his ailing wife, yet this did nothing to spare the villagers' suffering. To make matters worse, Li took away the sister of Wang's son-in-law. Determined to resist the oppression, Wang organized an uprising, rallying the people and driving the Kuomintang forces into a disordered retreat. However, with the arrival of Kuomintang reinforcements, casualties among the insurgents rose. Resolute, Wang decided to break through the encirclement to seek support from the Communist Party.
