The Mandalorian has exposed many to the idea that lightsabers cant cut through everything, with many bounty hunters, imperials as well as other scum and villainy using armour that could slow, or even stop the slash of this formidable weapon. The prevelence of such materials in Star Wars legends was no less, with many Sith, and various other mysterious force wielding using lightsaber resistant materials to create armour. It seems that the only group that didn’t wear some kind of lightsaber resistant armour were the Jedi, the most notable likghtsaber wielding group. Indeed, with some notable exceptions such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi did not even wear lightweight blaster resistant armour, instead leading the charge into battle in monk robes.

But why? If battle armour worked for the Sith, then why not the Jedi? Or at the very least why didnt a decent portion of the Jedi who used lightsaber techniques that would be complimented by battle armour bother to use it? The answer to this question has many facets, all of which will be explored in this video.

Now its important to note that for most of their history, the Jedi did use battle armour. This practice, while not universal, was adopted in response to the specific needs and challenges of various eras. Let's delve deeper into the historical context and the implications of this tradition.

In the ancient epochs, such as the Pius Dea and early Ductavis periods, Jedi Knights were often seen clad in full-body metal armor, complete with distinctive horned helmets. This was a brutal era, characterised by a human centric cult that turned the Republic into a fanatical EMpire that persecuted alien species. This harrowing period eventually caused the Jedi to militerise to a profound extent. This militerisation caused many Jedi to sway from the original ideals of the Order, and many of them embraced the dark side to a greater extent. This included developing some of the worst kinds of force powered torture techniques, a topic for a future video, and the adoption of some of the most substantial Jedi armour in the oirders history. This armour was more akin to the anmcient Siths armour than anything else than camebefore or after, showing just how different these early jedi really were. This particular style of armor, steeped in history, left a lasting impression on the galaxy's collective memory. So much so that even Luke Skywalker, a figure from a time more than 10,000 years later, was aware of this iconic armor.

Although such heavy armour would be given up during the relative peace that followed the Pius Dea cults demise, the use of some smaller pieces of armour still remained for the remainder of the Old Republic Era. From the Hundred year darkness to the Old Sith Wars, Jedi were often seen donning armour of some kind, with Revan being a prime example of this.

The era of the Great Galactic War introduced an evolution in the design of Jedi armor, with the inclusion of kamas — a type of skirt-like garment that offered additional protection without hindering movement. This contrasted with the Sith's preference for capes, highlighting a divergence in philosophy and approach to warfare between the two factions.
