Adam Smith (1723-1790) was a Scottish philosopher and economist who is considered the father of modern economics. He was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, and studied at the University of Glasgow and later the University of Oxford. Smith became a professor of logic at the University of Glasgow and developed his economic ideas, which he published in his most famous work, "The Wealth of Nations," in 1776. Smith believed that the division of labor and the free market were the keys to economic growth and prosperity. His ideas were groundbreaking and had a profound impact on economic theory and policy. In addition to his work in economics, Smith was a prolific writer and explored topics such as moral philosophy, history, and politics. He died in 1790, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence economic thought and policy to this day
