The PURPOSE of a piece of music is what it’s expressing. What you as the artist want the listener to feel and experience. The FUNCTION of a piece of music is the external reason for the music to exist (e.g. make someone dance, get plays on Spotify, get you gigs etc.) But most artists put Function first.
