The reality of what’s going on in San Francisco. Unfiltered.

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen and read claims all over the internet how San Francisco is suffering a doom loop, that it is an empty ghost town. Words like dystopia and apocalyptic have been used to describe San Francisco.

If you regularly check out my videos, you might have seen that I covered most of San Francisco from the wealthiest districts; to the nooks and crannies of the most condemned streets of Tenderloin, South of Market and the Mission.

I walk the streets of San Francisco almost everyday. I take public transportation on a regular basis, too. I must admit that since the pandemic three years ago, a lot has changed for the worse but it is not to the level of what some critics are saying.

First, people love making this beautiful city a punching bag. Most of the people who claim that SF is over don’t actually live here or they’ve never even been to San Francisco. Second, whatever is happening in San Francisco, also happens in major cities all over the US. I follow local news in New York, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Texas, Florida, etc. They all deal with homelessness, drugs, retail theft & struggling downtowns. Lastly, I don’t buy whatever the mainstream media-sponsored data that reports that most of the homeless and drug addicts are locals and the real problem is housing shortage, I don’t really buy that. I worked for a nonprofit whose main clients are homeless and drug addicts. I worked for a company that manages supportive housing and I volunteer at soup kitchens. I know the truth.

I know the main root causes of the problem- the drug addicts from other states/cities come to SF because it’s known to be welcoming to alternative culture and lifestyle. It is the policies created by politicians that don’t work. Say for example- harm reduction. Though it’s well-meaning is just not the solution and needs rethinking. The city government and the police are too light on crimes and the drug dealers. People outside San Francisco come to the city to shop drugs. Thieves come to the city to steal from our stores, residents and tourists. For some reason, mainstream media zeroes in on our 49 square mile- beautiful city. Why?Because San Francisco news sells. People click on any doom loop news.

San Francisco is not perfect, it saddens me when I see people suffering. We are doing our best though.

FYI, tourists still come to San Francisco. The world is still falling in love with our gorgeous city. There is no fu@&ing doom loop. We are resilient and San Francisco is rising up and we’re getting back stronger than ever.
