0:27 Character Design
Character design is a critical aspect of animation. Character designers must be skilled at drawing characters in various styles and from multiple angles. This often involves creating "turnaround views" that showcase characters from the front, back, profile, and 3/4 views.

0:45 Background Layout & Paint
“Background Layout” is when the artist draws the scene in black and white with a bit of tonal shading. Background Layout artists need to be very good at line art and perspective. “Background Paint” is when the artist uses their skills in color, light, shadow, and perspective to bring the scene to life. Background Painters will need to be especially good with color to convey the mood of the scene.

1:09 Prop Designer
Prop designers are responsible for designing and crafting the small objects and items that populate animated shows and films. They must draw objects at scale relative to characters, from different angles, and demonstrate a strong grasp of perspective.

1:28 Storyboard Artist
Storyboard artists are pivotal in the animation industry, offering an alternative path to traditional 2-D animation. They create visual blueprints for stories, illustrating how scenes will unfold through a series of drawings. This role requires strong figure drawing and perspective skills, along with storytelling, pacing, camera direction, and the ability to convey emotions and moods through imagery.

1:56 Visual Development Artist (Vis Dev)
Visual development artists, often referred to as "vis dev" artists, shape the artistic style of animated movies or shows. Vis dev artists may encompass various roles, including character design, background painting, prop design, color keys, and even storyboarding. It's a highly sought-after position in the animation industry.

2:31 Feature Animation vs Series Animation
It's worth noting that visual development artists can work on feature animation (movies) or series animation (TV shows), each with its own unique art styles and requirements influenced by time and budget constraints.
