DON'T Go Near This Doll!
In 1906 when Robert Gene Otto was six years old he was given a doll by his grandfather. Gene became obsessed with the doll he called Robert and the doll became his best friend. Gene went on to become a well-known artist and visitors to his home told stories of the Dolls' strange behaviour. Gene died in 1974 and Robert was banished to the attic. When the house was sold the new owner, Myrtle Reuter discovered Robert and soon became attached to him. However she became unnerved when he started moving around the house changing his facial expressions and giggling. In 1994 Myrtle donated Robert to the Fort East Martello Museum where he remains to this day displayed in a sealed cabinet. However visitors are told if they photograph him or disrespect him they do so at their peril as misfortune is sure to follow!
