There are a lot of people that would argue I shouldn't be showing anyone how to use SQL in ODOO. I've heard more than once that if you can't do it the right way, you shouldn't be doing it. Still, I contend that SQL is a useful skill that power users should know about.
Be careful, and you'll be okay. This really is no different than python on the face of it and if you use it correctly, it's faster and has other advantages too.
