So....I quit my job.
I’ve been dodging all questions about where I’ll be going next, but step one of this new endeavour is that I’ll be taking a break for some time (will see how long that lasts as I just can’t stay still 🤣) to focus more on myself. Friends have been asking me how I feel about my decision, and as a risk-averse individual who’s been all about financial security since moving out at 18, I’ve been openly saying that I’m scared out of my mind.
Somewhere deep in the layers of fear though, there is conviction that this is “the right thing” to do at this time. I had the same gut feeling when I decided to move across the world with two suitcases 5 years ago. I think that there is a profound lack of tolerance for change, especially for women my age and above. Nobody wants to make the wrong decision, and as a result of that, we are self-censoring in a capacity that does not deserve to be censored at all. But it’s really the difficult days (like the week I finally decided to resign), when it’s hard to get out of bed yet we plow through – these are the important days that incite real change.
Ive always been a little confused and often lost. At 28, I feel like I’m starting all over again, like I flew the nest and broke my wing and I need to learn to fly again. I think we all experience these storms in our lives, maybe at milestones like 25, 30, 50 etc.
I told myself not to be scared. That sick feeling in the stomach is just a passing guest. I’ve come this far, and it hasn’t been pure luck. Don’t get hung up on mistakes. Give thanks for all things. But most importantly, to live to work and not work to live.
