The completed construction of the Multinational Arusha - Holili/Taveta – Mwatate (A6) Road in Taita Taveta County. In 2013, Kenya National Highways Authority embarked on major transformative road infrastructure project in the Coastal Region, aimed at easing congestion, enhancing connectivity and facilitating regional integration. The upgrading of the 90 Kilometres Mwatate – Taveta (A6) Road and a 9 Kilometer spur road through Taveta Town has been upgraded to Bitumen Standard.
The road project is part of the East Africa Community Multinational Road Corridor linking Arusha in Tanzania to Taveta through the Holili/Mwatate border. With the road completed, it is expected to increase the country’s business competitiveness by providing an efficient route for cross border trade and tourism movement as well as enhance regional integration.
The project was jointly funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Kenya at the cost of Kshs.8.4 billion, and was implemented by the Third Engineering Bureau of China City Construction Ltd under supervision of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
