President Biden’s recent Executive Order set a new target to make half of all new vehicles sold in 2030 zero-emissions, including battery electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell electric vehicles (EVs). This will help align the U.S. with Europe and Asia, where EVs are more common. The President’s new infrastructure bill also contains funding for electrification initiatives, such as vehicle charging stations, clean mass transit, and modernization of the nation’s electrical grid. Along with the planetary benefits around climate change, the shift to EVs and the electrification of transportation could have profound changes around health and equity. In this Forum event, a panel of experts explored the widespread implications of these initiatives, from the public health considerations of EVs and mobility solutions to the new jobs and training needed.

Presented jointly by The Forum at the Harvard Chan School and Reuters on September 13, 2021.
