Project Evo has picked up quite a bit more power over the course of the build and the stock clutch is pretty much at its limits in terms of holding it. There's perhaps no one that knows more about clutches than the folks at Exedy, so we took the show on the road and drove up to their facility just outside of Detroit.
This is a very in depth tutorial a clutch swap on the Evo X with crazy levels of detail that will prepare anyone to do the job themselves. As part of the process, we also remove the shift delay pill from the slave cylinder and install an AMS clutch master cylinder kit.
We used Exedy's new Hyper Series Twin Organic Disc Clutch which is perhaps the best clutch available for high horsepower Evos that also want to maintain great drivability. Holding power is huge, as expected, but what we didn't expect was the low noise, amazing pedal feel and incredible engagement. This clutch truly feels like it could be stock and actually has an improved engagement over the stock unit. Kyle Mohan even stopped by with his insane turbo rotary MX-5 and destroyed some tires.
