overall, the motion detection mode on the SQ11 mini DV camera is actually pretty decent - for large movements that are relatively close to the camera, I have found that it does a pretty good job of detecting them and recording a clip. While it certainly doesn't have the highest quality footage, for such a cheap price you can't really go wrong with the SQ11 mini camera.
