During my 8 hour layover I was fortunate to do several things in the city. I saw the historical Römerberg square, the Frankfurt Cathedral, the Palmengarten botanical garden, and the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment). We didn’t have to spend much money on taxi’s or Ubers because we road the public train. Frankfurt has a well-connected public transportation system, including buses, trams, and trains. We purchased a Frankfurt Card that offered unlimited travel on public transportation and discounts to many attractions. We also got a chance to explore the Zeil, Frankfurt's main shopping street, for a mix of high-end shops and department stores. Fortunately, we were able to communicate with the locals very well. While German is the official language, many people in Frankfurt speak English, especially in tourist areas. Something I would advise is to have some cash on hand as not all places accept credit cards, especially in smaller shops or restaurants. The currency used in Germany is the Euro (€). Anyone that visits Frankfurt must try traditional German dishes such as schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerkraut. Also visit a local bakery for some delicious pastries and bread.
