New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a fake international call centre in Paschim Vihar, Delhi involved in duping US citizens on the pretext of providing them with technical support from Microsoft. Main accused and owner, Abhishek and five callers involved in this racket have been arrested. Accused used to send pop-ups to unsuspecting people that their devices had been hacked and infected with malware/virus and then cheat them on the pretext of providing technical support by Microsoft. When the victim calls, the call comes to this fake call centre through “X-Lite” app. The accused pretend to be from Microsoft technical support assistance team and induce them to give remote access of their computers to them through applications like “Ultra Viewer” or “Any Desk”. After that, they tell the victim that several malicious programs including malwares, spywares, etc. have been found in their system, when in reality, there is no such issue. They further “cautioned” the victim that their banking credentials might be compromised if immediate remedial steps are not taken. The victim, fearing for their financial security, agrees to pay the amount as asked for by the accused. 7 laptops, 7 headphones, 7 mobile phones, ₹ 7.10 lakhs cash, 1 internet router and 1 switch were seized from the possession of the accused persons.
