For years no one knew if it was genuine - but now after eight months of intensive study, experts have declared an obscure portrait to be a genuine Rembrandt. Painted by Rembrandt in 1635, the authenticity of the portrait had previously been thrown into doubt by Rembrandt specialist Horst Gerson and the Rembrandt Research Project in 1968. But after fresh study, using methods not available in the 1960s, another member of the Research Project, Ernst van de Wetering, has declared that it is genuine after all.
The painting now hangs in the collection at the National Trust's Buckland Abbey in Devon where visitors can see it for themselves. or find out more at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/buck...
