i tried the tl072 preamp circuit 12-24 volt - it runs off 9 volts just fine . its good - no noise or issues . its clean gain not dirt so much . i also tried a new chip amp - the 2 watt tda2822 . i have to say this little mono board takes 2-12 volts and it won my heart over . i like building smaller low wattage amps . typically i have other gear such as pedals , or a combination of a multi effect / amp cab sim modeler with a few pedals in its effects loop .... running this type of processing gear eliminates the need for boosters and buffers pretty much but you really cant loose buy running a buffer . i do not recomend the lm386 amps so much . i like the chinme and punch amps do sound good , but any chip amp will sound about the same , as long as you buffer it . the 2822 boards i see cost 75 cents and they come with the pot . so much less work than building a punch or chime amp on vero ... the 2822 is rated at 2x the power of the chime / punch amp so there is that . if you get a 2822, run it on a decent 4-8 inch speaker - you dont want a sub speaker so look for one with a narrow center cone , but those sub speakers will work they just wont sound good . those speakers are for sub freqs , way lower than aguitar so . i have an oval speaker that is rated at just 6 watts in my roland micro cube cabinet and its ideal . old speaker . i got somewhere . the reason i dislike lm386 is sound quality . i dont like the fuzzy nasty distortion of those amps , but some people want that so consider why i dont like that .it may be perfect for you . yiou may be able to buffer one of those and get it to sound great . i have tried it and it definitely makes the amp sound alot better with a buffer so . thats the take away . also the 2822 is 75 cents , its going to be my way foreward when constructing this type of thing .
