High Voltage Lab @ Darshan University
High Voltage Laboratory at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Darshan University - Rajkot has a state of the art equipment that can be used in the testing of insulating material and study of different High Voltage phenomena. High Voltage Engineering is the branch for testing insulating material used in electrical equipment. The Laboratory has the capability to produce High Voltage AC (Up to 50 kV), High Voltage DC (Up to 70 kV), and High Voltage Impulse (100kV, 1.2µS-50 µS).
The student can experiment with different geometry of electrodes like Sphere, Point & Disc to test the breakdown strength of air. The laboratory is also capable to test the breakdown strength of liquid-like Transformer oil and solid like Mica, Glass, Paper, rubber, etc. The laboratory also has the capability to test electrical equipment from lightning surge up to 100 kV. Students learn insulating material testing and HV generation & measurement and testing of power system equipment like Lighting Arrestors, Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Cable, etc.
