Dr. Ma, a graduate of Peking University, has dedicated his career to pushing the boundaries of gene therapy. He has effectively addressed two significant challenges in the field of nucleic acid drugs: short half-life and inadequate affinity. In his proposed research, he takes an innovative approach by focusing on conformational regulation, opening up new avenues for enhancing aptamer affinity. Through in-depth study and comprehension of the interactions between aptamers and target molecules, he has successfully overcome the hurdle of insufficient affinity in drug development. The aptamer-based drugs he has contributed to have garnered orphan drug and pediatric rare disease designations from the US FDA.
