In part 5 of my Hardcore Star Valor playthrough we upgrade to a better ship, the Reaper and use it hunt for Ziggy "Danger" Yggiz and the hidden ship the Hephaestus! Contains spoilers for the secret quest obviously!
Star Valor is an indie Space sandbox RPG (think games like Freelancer or Space Pirates and Zombies) and it just left early access. It's one of my favorite indie space games in the last few years. Hardcore mode (not permadeath, that is a separate setting) increases difficulty and sends more challenging enemies after you but does have some better loot as a tradeoff.
