The scatter plot or scatter diagram is a data science workhorse of data analytics and can be used to determine whether or not a relationship exists between two variables, and how strong that relationship is.
There three basic linear relationships that can exist between two variables:
1. A positive relationship - as one variable increases so does the other;
2. A negative relationship - as one variable increases the other decreases
3. No relationship at all.
Scatter plots are often one of the first steps in data exploration or data analysis
