'Embattled Garden' Then and Now
'Against Time: The Noguchi Museum 40th Anniversary Reinstallation', on view August 28, 2024–September 14, 2025, features a selection of Isamu Noguchi’s sculptures, project models, drawings, and dance sets – including iconic collaborations with Martha Graham.
Works on view include 'Spider Dress and Serpent for Graham's "Cave of the Heart”', c. 1946, and 'Dance Platform for Martha Graham’s “Embattled Garden”', c. 1958, seen here in archival video from 1965 featuring Graham Company dancers Yuriko, Bertram Ross, Matt Turney, and Robert Cohan; and in video from 2023 with today's Graham stars Xin Ying, Lloyd Knight, Lorenzo Pagano, and Leslie Andrea Williams.
