The Pawpaw (Latin Asimina Triloba) is commonly mistaken for Paypaya due to the similar names however they are two different things. The Pawpaw derives it's name from indigenous Native American languages. This cool tree is native to Eastern North America and it does very well in deciduous forests, and near rich lowlands. I have heard and found it in higher dryer areas however to a lesser extent anecdotally.
Pawpaws produce a fruit that reminds me of the shape of a mango/banana hybrid. They tend to grow in clusters of 2+ with occasional groups and some of them alone.
The skin does contain compounds that are mildy toxic and can cause digestive issues.
