On 3 September 1997, Dame Barbara Cartland spoke to ITN about the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Known primarily as one of the best-selling authors of the 20th Century, Cartland was also Princess Diana's step grandmother. Dame Barbara told ITN how she believed that Diana had been "neglected" and "ignored" by the Royal Family, who didn't realise how "marvellous" and "wonderful" the late princess was. Interviewed two days before the Royal Family returned to London from Balmoral, Dame Barbara also criticised the absence of any statement on the matter by Buckingham Palace.
