Peterhof Fountains or 'Russian Versailles' - one of the main attractions of St Petersburg. The grandiose park, many larger than the prototype in France, with magnificent palaces and numerous unique fountains that operate without the use of pumps(!), was created at the beginning of the 18th century by order of Emperor Peter the Great, after his visiting Paris.
If you came to St Petersburg, but did not see the Samson Fountain and the Grand Palace in the Lower Park of Peterhof, then your visit plan was wrong and you wasted your time in vain on something else.
Now, if you are here for the first time, then now you know what you need to do. If not, now you have a reason to come back. Especially if last time you traveled to Saint Petersburg in the winter and the fountains were turned off ☺
PLEASE NOTE! Parks in Peterhof are open year-round (except Dec 30 - 31, Jan 01), but fountains operate about from the end of April (depending on the weather) until mid-September. At the opening and closing of the fountain season, a grandiose show takes place.
