The HLG Normalized Transform is an accurate solution that normalizes Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) content in a scene referred context as recorded from a Camera. It's based on the ITU-T BT.2100 specification and the ITU-T BT.2408 recommendations and also includes support for normalizing Sony HLG1, HLG2 and HLG3 footage!
For reference, the 18% Middle Gray values are shown as follows:
HLG BT.2100 - 21% IRE
HLG BT.2408 - 38% IRE
Sony HLG1 - 19% IRE
Sony HLG2 - 20% IRE
Sony HLG3 - 21% IRE
Unlike a Look-up Table (LUT) which is has limited precision, the transform provides an accurate mathematical conversion, especially in workflows such as ACES, where color accuracy and shot matching are of critical importance. Additionally, the HLG Normalized Transform offers numerous customizations such as Exposure Correction and multiple Color Space & Gamma conversions, all within the same transform!
