You'll visit the 4th-century Ovech Fortress, perched on a rocky plateau near Varna, and bathe in a natural pool heated by thermal springs at Sveti Konstantin. She learns that very hot food is more of an insult in Bulgaria. During a visit to the interior of the country, Tamina comes into contact with Bulgarian folklore at Oma Radka and her friends.
Package tourists and party-goers are drawn to the seaside resorts on Golden Sands and Sunny Beach: In the tourist areas of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the beaches are densely populated during the season - just like the many restaurants, bars and pubs. But there is another way: The ancient town of Nessebar with its picturesque maze of streets is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two kilometer long cliff with its 70 meter high, red limestone rocks is the landmark of the Kaliakra reserve. You won't find any hotels there, just a lot of nature - and good paddling conditions on the sea. The estuary of the Kamtchia looks like a tropical rain forest with its oak, elm and maple trees entwined with lianas, which protrude up to 50 meters from the freshwater swamp.
Varna, the third largest city in Bulgaria, was once known as the pearl of the Black Sea and is destined to become so again. An association of architects ensures that the historic buildings shine again in their former glory. In the Archaeological Museum lies the "Gold Treasure of Varna", which dates back to 4,500 BC. dates from.
Although Balchik hardly has a sandy beach, it is picturesquely situated on white rocks and has an enchanting castle. It tells the story of Queen Maria Alexandrina Victoria, who came from Edinburgh at the end of the 19th century and married into the royal house, had six children with Ferdinand von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and had a lover for years.
