Microsoft tries to improve its latest in-house browser Microsoft Edge with every major update for Windows 10. While the browser regularly receives new features and stability improvements, there are still some issues that bother users even today, more than 2,5 years ago after its release.
One of the problems that have been present since the earliest versions of Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge is the error message “Hmmm...cannot reach this page,” which prevents users from connecting to certain web pages.
METHOD 1 - CHANGE NETWORK TYPE TO PRIVATE (PUBLIC)
1. Go to: PC Settings 🡪 Network and Internet 🡪 Status.
2. Click on 'Change connection properties'.
3. Now, change your network to private (public) and see if the issue was resolved.
METHOD 2 - DISABLE IPv6
1. Open Network and Sharing Centre.
2. Click on your connection and select its "Properties".
3. Then, choose the "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" option.
4. Uncheck it and then click OK.
METHOD 3 - OBTAIN IP ADDRESS & DNS SERVER(S) AUTOMATICALLY
METHOD 4 - USE GOOGLE DNS SERVERS
1. Open Network and Sharing Centre.
2. Click on your connection and select its "Properties".
3. Then, choose the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)" option and click on "Properties".
4. Click on 'Use the following DNS server addresses' option and enter the following ones:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
5. Then, click OK and see if the issue still persists.
METHOD 5 - MAKE SURE DNS CLIENT SERVICE IS ENABLED AND RUNNING
1. Open services.msc
2. Scroll down until you find DNS Client service.
3. Make sure it is enabled and its Startup type is set to Automatic.
METHOD 6 - RUN TROUBLESHOOTERS
METHOD 7 - CHANGE PROXY SETTINGS
1. Go to: PC Settings 🡪 Network and Internet 🡪 Proxy.
2. Make sure that the 'Automatically detect settings' option is enabled.
3. Also, make sure that other options are disabled.
METHOD 8 - ALTERNATIVE WAY
1. Run Command Prompt (CMD) as an Administrator
2. Put this command: ipconfig /release
3. Next, type this: ipconfig /flushdns
4. Then: ipconfig /renew
Hopefully, some of these methods will fix your Microsoft Edge problem :)
