For the 5th year, Paris Photo renews its commitment to women in photography, in partnership with Ministère de la Culture and Women In Motion, a program by Kering.
Thanks to Federica Chiocchetti’s curatorship and to the path created for the fair, additional exposure is given to women artists, highlighting their contribution to the history of the medium.

"For the 25 edition of Paris Photo, rather than a theme I was looking for a playful curatorial approach and I landed on the territory
of the OuLiPo, the legendary Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle, whose members, a mixture of writers and mathematicians, compose works using constrained writing techniques as a means of triggering inspiration. This time I felt that I needed a symbolic number of artists. I set myself the rule to present only artists who had not been featured in the previous editions of
Elles X Paris Photo and I decided to extend the selection to the book sector, because for a woman it seems easier to publish
a book than to be represented by a gallery. I often work with associations of ideas. The title of Kering's project Women In Motion reminded me of the importance of legs, as they enable movement through walking. In the old Neapolitan board game La Tombola, the number 77 corresponds to “women’s legs”, but it is also associated with none other than the devil. Lurking behind a seemingly innocent number, we find a typical misogynic relic of patriarchal society: the demonized woman, reminiscent of the
witch-hunts epoch. There was my symbolic number ready for rehab. Moreover, 1977 is a very important year for the feminist movement in my home country Italy. I hope, dear visitors, that you will enjoy navigating the fair to discover the 77 artists and don't forget to pick a copy of the dedicated publication".
