Expanding donation after circulatory of death (DCD) is a critical route to addressing the shortage of organs for transplant, and in-situ normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) holds promise for providing optimal DCD organ recovery outcomes. While this mode of recovery is well-established in some jurisdictions, there remain significant ethical concerns related to whether this method undermines the determination of death. This session will explore the ethical arguments for and against DCD NRP comparing international contexts, and with specific attention to the rights and interests of potential donors and authorizing family members.
