For the last month I’ve been wearing both my Galaxy Watch Ultra on my left wrist and my Apple Watch Ultra 2 on my right wrist. I tested them to the extreme to find out which is best to track your workouts and your general health. To do that I focussed on three aspects: first GPS or location tracking, or in other words, when you are doing an outdoor bike-ride or run, which watch is better at tracking your position. Second, when you are recovering from a workout at night, can these watches accurately track your sleep stages? So, can they detect when you are in deep sleep and REM sleep. And, finally, when you are working out, is the heart rate tracking accurate. I tested this for five different workout types during a total of 65 workouts. This means I have ton of data to work with, making this the most extensive testing I’ve done of the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 2 so far. Before getting to the results, let me set the stage for how I set up my testing. First of all, I haven't even looked at the results yet, so we’ll be discovering together how well each of them performed. For the test, I tried to use a similar strap for both devices. I used the Galaxy Watch Ultra with the orange marine band, making the total weight of the Galaxy Watch + Strap 92.7 grams; and I used the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with the yellow ocean band, putting the total weight of the Apple Watch with Ocean Band at 97.5 grams, so just slightly heavier than the Galaxy Watch. Now, let’s get one thing out of the way first. Except for the fact that the actual screen of the Galaxy Watch is circular, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch Ultra look very similar. From both of these watches having the name “Ultra” to even the sensor layout on the back, these watches just look like slight variations of the same design. And since the Apple Watch Ultra came out basically 2 years before the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to assume that Samsung decided to copy many of the design features of the Apple Watch. Whether or not this is ethical is up for debate, but I just wanted to be clear for those people that weren’t aware. But, now that that is out of the way, let's get to the testing. And before showing you my objective test results, I wanted to start off with one thing that kind of bugged me, and that has to do with the strap of the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
