UKRAINE WAR: Putin beware! Violent Russian attacks on Kyiv! Now the US is reacting harshly
The US is questioning Moscow's commitment to peace following the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine. "The attacks on Kyiv cast doubt on the sincerity of Russia's commitment to peace. These attacks on civilian areas must stop immediately," said US diplomat John Kelley before the UN Security Council. The US government is currently threatening economic sanctions if Russia continues the war. "The United States calls on the Russian Federation to avoid these consequences by halting the violence and engaging constructively to end the war," Kelley continued before the 15-member council. Russia launched another comprehensive missile and drone strike against Ukraine early Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the US is ready to supply several Patriot air defense systems and other weapons to NATO partner Denmark, which intends to support Ukraine in its defense against Russia. The State Department in Washington approved the deal, valued at $8.5 billion (€7.3 billion). In addition to six launchers, the package also includes radar and guidance systems and corresponding missiles.
Denmark and other NATO members want to support Ukraine in its war against the aggressor, Russia, with state-of-the-art weapons systems. Since Germany's northern neighbor does not possess Patriot systems of its own, Denmark must purchase the weapons from the United States. The Netherlands is also purchasing Patriots from the Americans to strengthen Ukraine's air defense system.
In recent months, Kyiv has repeatedly asked its Western allies for Patriot air defense systems to better protect Ukrainian cities from Russian airstrikes. Since the United States itself does not want to spend money on new arms deliveries to Ukraine, its NATO partners are now purchasing American weapons and passing them on to the Ukrainians.
