This magnificent 1968 BMW R69US motorcycle was meticulously restored by renowned Barrington Motor Works located in Barrington, New Hampshire. The owner Andrew Kahora and his team specialize in BMW motorcycles. The BMW R69, R69S and R69US are motorcycles fitted with 594cc boxer twin engines that were manufactured by BMW in Munich, Germany. The sport-oriented R69 models succeeded the plunger-framed 1951 to 1955 R68. From 1955 to 1969 a total of R69 models 15,347 were built. The 35hp R69 was produced from 1955 to 1960. The 42hp R69S was produced from 1960 to 1969. The 42hp R69US was produced from 1968 to 1969. The R69US models, with telescopic forks, which were used later on the BMW R-5 series motorcycles, were introduced in the United States for the 1968 model year and then continued for 1969. Front and side reflectors, demanded by the U.S. Department of Transportation were introduced only for the 1969 model year. This matching-numbers example, serial #664245, was the product of a nut and bolt restoration. It was completed in the summer of 2022 and only has a few test miles since completion. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased it in October of 2024 from a local gentleman who was the caretaker during and after the restoration. October of 2024 is the first time MS CLASSIC CARS has offered it for sale. This motorcycle is being sold with a clean Massachusetts title.
This motorcycle was restored to high-show quality standards. To be clear, this motorcycle could be displayed on the lawn of any Concours D’ Elegance and be competitive. During the refurbishment process it was disassembled to a bare frame. The headstock plate indicates that this bike is a R69US with serial number #664245 which matches the numbers stamped on the frame and engine case. The matching numbers double loop steel tubular frame was stripped, prepped and painted in the correct color of BMW Turf Green. The body work was also stripped, prepped and painted Turf Green. The 6.5 gallon Sport fuel tank and fenders were decorated with white pin-stripes. The paintwork is beautiful and was recently detailed to a glossy finish by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. It retains the original VDO 120-mph black and white speedometer which reads 39,485 miles. Everything was restored or replaced with high-quality reproduction parts such as the chrome low-rise handlebars, Magura black grips, bar-end turn signals, chrome headlight mounted mirrors, chrome front fender brace, rubber fork boots, chrome gas cap, frame mounted air pump, BWM tank and R69S rear fender emblems. Additional equipment includes a black Denfeld solo seat and upgraded Zitzen H4 Super headlight. It’s powered by the original matching numbers 594cc four-stroke two cylinder opposed flat twin engine with 4-speed manual transmission. The engine was factory rated with a max power of 42hp at 7000rpm. The engine is fed through the correct dual Bing carburetors. The entire engine and transmission was completely rebuilt during the restoration process. The engine breathes through a chrome dual exhaust system. It rolls on 18” wheels with upgraded stainless steel spokes. The wheels are wrapped with Heidenau tires that are 3.50-18 on the front and 4.00-18 on the rear. The fuel tank has a lockable storage compartment and it has a center stand. MS CLASSIC CARS added a new Duracell 6V AGM battery and plastic battery box with BOSCH stickers.
