It’s very cool. It does a lot of things I wish Hotline Miami 2 had, like the offscreen arrows when only a few enemies are left. Art design is very stylish, and I like the overall aesthetic. Especially the details when it comes to destruction. Once they’re in a gunfight, I like the enemies AI as well, they’re smart enough to take cover and not run into prefire.
However It’s also extremely easy. You’re OP as hell, with tons of health, ammo, a spammable OHK kick, bullet time AND a roll with i-frames. Enemies are locked inside rooms, and a lot of the game can be done just stomping everyone to death. You're basically HM1 Tony with an LMG.
I assume later levels are tougher, but as a roguelite you’ll have to slog through the early parts, just opening doors and clicking on the dudes constantly. I could see that getting tedious as the visual spectacle wears off.
My advice would be to lower the ammo (no second mag until you buy a perk) and nerf the kick spam. Then like make heath 1/4th of what it is, but allow kills to refill it (some of the roguelite perks already do this but your healthbar is so massive it makes those perks OP). Maybe don't refill the healthbar to 100% at the start of each stage either. Just top it up to be at least 25%.
Hotline Miami is all about dying and retrying quickly, so a roguelite style where you want perfect runs is kind of at odds with that, leading to a ton of design changes.
Also you look identical to the enemies and that is confusing if you’re all in close quarters.
