Carnival Mindelo 2017, São Vicente - Cape Verde
The most famous festival in Cape Verde is the carnival also known as the Creole festival. It is normally held on most of the islands in February, close to Ash Wednesday. The streets are awash with revellers in fancy dresses and the atmosphere is electrifying.
Every year, Carnival fever takes over the Cape Verde islands...carnaval Cabo Verde. There are many local celebrations, the biggest taking place in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente.
In Cape Verde Carnival is big and beautiful. The most popular Carnival is the one in MIndelo. Cesária Évora sang about it being a ‘brazilim’, or a small Brazilian Carnival. During Carnival there is a vibrant atmosphere in the whole city and everybody is outside celebrating Carnival.
Different groups parade during the official day, the 28 of February, but preparations start months before, in view of the prestige and coveted final price. This year the Carnival Mindelo 2017 edition has been won by Vindos do Oriente.
